FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

The most common vaginal tightening procedure is called vaginoplasty.

It involves resuspending the walls of the vagina. During this procedure excess tissue from the vaginal lining is removed before the muscles of the vagina are brought back together again using sutures.

There are multiple reasons to undergo a Vaginal Tightening procedure. Women may choose to have the procedure for reasons including but not limited to the following:

  • Having a wide Vaginal opening.
  • Decreased sensation during sex.
  • The presence of physical discomfort or symptoms affecting a woman’s quality of life (feeling bulge symptoms, incontinence, etc).
  • Or, if a woman suffers from low self-esteem due to the appearance of her genitals or its associated discomforts.

During your consultation, Dr. Ojo-Carons will assess the condition of your genitals, your health history, and your desired results to create a treatment plan specific to your needs. Remember, smoking, uncontrolled diabetes, and poor health habits increase the risks of complications in women undergoing vaginal tightening/vaginoplasty.

The surgery is generally less than 1 hour.

  • The surgery will require general anesthesia so you won’t feel anything during the procedure.
  • Any discomfort or pain that you may experience after vaginal tightening/vaginoplasty can be easily controlled with medications. Some of them will usually resolve after a few days of rest.
  • Although the procedure repairs the sensitive and delicate part of your body, the pain that you will feel once the anesthesia wears off is tolerable and can be minimized with medications.

  • You will need to wait at least 6 weeks to recover from the surgery. During this time, you can gradually resume your activities of daily living. Full recovery can take up to 6-12 months.
  • It is important to keep in mind that the downtime following surgery may vary from patient to patient.

Childbirth, genetics, and hormone changes can cause your genitals to develop excess vaginal folds.

Your treatment plan will depend on your overall condition and desired results.

The results of this surgical procedure can last for several years.

You can enjoy a significant reduction in physical discomforts for years to come.

However, you should keep in mind that the surgery cannot stop the effects of weight gain or aging on your body.

It is recommended to avoid vaginal sexual intercourse for 6 to 8 weeks to allow the operated area to fully heal.

Recovery timeline does eventually result in the creation of scars stemming from incisions made along the skin. The scar recovery time is usually minor and so inconspicuous in the natural folds and wrinkles of the vagina. The surrounding vaginal tissue does such a good job in hiding it.
