Body parts are different sizes in different people. The average diameter of the vagina is between two and 3.5 centimeters. Having multiple vaginal births could cause a woman’s vagina to become a little wider than it was prior to delivery, largely due to the vaginal muscles relaxing or tears sustained during delivery. Although a wide vagina does not impact periods or the ability to wear a tampon, it may affect satisfaction during sex.

Women with wide vaginas often complain about vaginal noises during sex or exercise, decrease sensation during sexual intercourse, change in urinary stream, and their partner falling our during sex.

According to a published study, the sensation of a wide/smooth vagina is the initial loss of sensation in the vagina during sexual intercourse followed by the physical development of a widened/smoother vagina. The study went on to define a sensation of wide vagina as the widened vagina causing a decrease in sexual function. If addressed in a timely manner, mild to moderate posterior vaginal bulge may be alleviated without surgery.
